The massive steampunk vault doors swung wide open — both of them — copper rivets gleaming in the desert night —
and Vinny G stood in the threshold in his steampunk long coat, goggles on, smiling —
electric blue frequency arcs forming a full circle around him —
and behind him in the golden light, silhouettes. The Alliance. Already assembled. Already waiting.
He hadn’t gone looking for them.
He had simply opened the door — fully, without hesitation, without conditions —
and the people who were always supposed to be there
were already on the other side.
⚙ VINNY G — FIELD NOTE — CHAPTER 5
“Gilbert was perched on top of the vault door — the absolute best seat in the house — clipboard in wing — looking DOWN at the whole scene like a documentarian who had planned this shot for years.
He had the names, the arrival times, the frequency readings — all of it — already written down.
I looked up at him from the threshold.
He looked down at me over his monocle.
Then he wrote something, tapped the clipboard twice with his quill, and puffed his chest.
I think it said: ‘THE ALLIANCE IS CONFIRMED.’”
The remembering gets louder when you do it together.
The frequency amplifies when it finds other frequencies that are tuned to the same thing.
You were never meant to carry this alone — the whole point of remembering who you are
is so you can recognize the people who were always supposed to be beside you.
