The red rock mesa rose above the Sonoran Desert floor — saguaros in every direction — canyon walls glowing amber in the last light of the day.
Vinny G sat cross-legged at the center of it all — eyes closed — goggles resting on his forehead —
and the electric blue frequency rings were radiating outward from him in every direction —
not from a machine. From him. From the stillness.
The steampunk frequency horn sat on the rock beside him — unused.
He didn’t need it.
The desert was already broadcasting — had always been broadcasting —
and the only thing that had ever blocked the signal was the noise he was making himself.
⚙ VINNY G — FIELD NOTE — CHAPTER 7
“Gilbert was on the rock beside me — clipboard on the ground — sitting quietly.
Not writing. Not documenting. Just… there.
I don’t know how long we sat like that. Long enough for the frequency rings to reach the canyon walls.
At some point I opened one eye and looked at him.
He had his eyes closed too.
I have never seen Gilbert with his eyes closed before.
I closed mine again and didn’t say anything about it.”
The desert doesn’t shout.
It doesn’t compete with your noise or try to get louder than your thoughts.
It just keeps broadcasting — steady, patient, ancient —
waiting for the moment you finally get quiet enough to hear it.
Get quiet.
